Rob Morgan Is A Curious Person

A massive question my friends and I have been asking lately is, "How should I spend my time while stuck at home during this time of self-distancing?" A ton of people say you should "Hustle", make the most of this time, look for the opportunity in this situation, and spend it "CRUSHING IT!!!!" But... I don't always have that in me to 'make the most of this situation." I've found myself emotionally all over the spectrum this past week from creating to sitting on the couch, from connecting online to turning my phone off and just ignoring the world... here's what I've learned so far.

If you’re like me, it’s tough knowing who to listen to when it comes to media coverage on COVID-19, aka “The Coronavirus.” A quick GOOGLE search will simultaneously tell you that it’s no big deal, and also that it’s the end of the world. One look at some of the overreacting people I’ve seen at Target here in Minneapolis and you’d think it was the zombie apocalypse. 

 

I NEED UNBIASED INFORMATION GROUNDED IN FACTS and I’m curious: How serious is it, and what actions should we take?

Whether you’re at a pub, a coffee shop, or in line at the DMV, striking up a conversation with a stranger can be intimidating. That said, I’m convinced it’s one of foundations of living a curious life.

 

You may just have a kind interaction but you never know, you may be sitting across from a future close friend, or in Roy Connaughton’s case, a future friend and your future Irish Pub co-owner.

 

With the convenient distraction of a cell phone in our pocket at all times, we’ve never had an easier excuse to not strike up conversation, but Roy says that it’s not that simple. Growing up in Ireland pre-cellphones and social-media, there’s always been an excuse to not strike up conversation but it you can get over that hurdle… you never know where in the world life will take you!

 

Roy Connaughton is one of the owners of Morrissey’s Irish Pub in Minneapolis, MN and a new friend of mine and I wasn’t expecting how deep this conversation ended up going. This my friends, is why I do this.
