Lisa Kudrow's Advice For Performers and "The Contagiousness of Energy"
Thursday Oct 08, 2020
Thursday Oct 08, 2020
I was recently listening to an interview with Lisa Kudrow (best known for acting on F.R.I.E.N.D.S.) In it, she talked about how, if you’re stepping on stage to perform, your NUMBER 1 PRIORITY is to be confident, relaxed, and comfortable.
“The audience is uncomfortable if you’re uncomfortable.”
I’ve known for years that, when we step on stage, we set the tone of the room but here’s the deal…
I haven’t been spending as much time on stage these past few months, but I’ve been wondering if this is true in my everyday life as well. Is energy contagious? What would it look like if I was as intentional about my energy say… when we walk into a room or jump on a zoom call lately?
I feel cheezy as hell talking about this stuff sometimes, but man, I wish someone would have told me years ago that we all have this low-key superpower we're not tapping into called, setting the tone.

We Got COVID! (Why you should stop listening to EVERYone’s opinions)
Thursday Oct 01, 2020
Thursday Oct 01, 2020
Thank you to those that have reached out, noticing that the podcast suddenly stopped this month and that I’ve been absent from social media.
Following a week in bed with a stomach bug at the top of September, once I was FINALLY feeling better, Sarah and I both contracted COVID and were completely wiped out… scary stuff!
Interestingly, even with the numbers so high, it’s hard to wrap my mind around (1 million deaths worldwide, 200k deaths and 7.2 million JUST IN THE U.S.!) I still had a ton of friends saying that Sarah and I were the first people they knew personally who got it.
So, I pulled out the ol’ camcorder and recorded a video talking about what our experience looked like. (Testing, symptoms, and recovery) but first… we need to talk about all the opinions floating around out there.
Everyone seems to have a Medical Degree from Facebook University and when it comes to something serious like this… it can become pretty overwhelming.

Scheduling Happiness (feat. Cory Wong)
Thursday Sep 03, 2020
Thursday Sep 03, 2020
With all the shit that’s been happening in 2020, have you ever thought about scheduling happiness in your life?
Me neither. UNTIL I sat down with my friend Cory a couple of years ago and he told me about how he makes a point to make sure he intentionally sets aside time each week to mark off a couple of things I would have NEVER thought about putting on a to-do list.
So, I tried it for myself and I just realized today it’s become a habit in my life and also the reason you’ll never run into me without a 3M sticky note in my wallet.
So, grab an americano, pull up a chair, and join Cory and me and he talks about why we need, now more than ever, to be scheduling happiness in our week.

聞く “Coffee On The Rum”
September 31st, 2020_7:06am_Light Rain_Rum River
We loaded up the motorcycles and rode North under blue skies. Away from the city, away from the noise, and away from the madness of 2020. And then came the rain.
A quote by George Santayana comes to mind, “We need sometimes to escape into open solitudes, into aimlessness, into the moral holiday of running some pure hazard, in order to sharpen the edge of life, to taste hardship and to be compelled to work desperately for a moment no matter what.” That’s why you’ll never hear me complain about the rain.
There are countless concerts I’ve played, cities I’ve wandered, or days I’ve simply spent outdoors with strikingly perfect weather. These memories, although enjoyable, seem to find their way into the commonplace of my memory, simply labeled, “Past”.
But days who’s plans were interrupted by rain… the edge of those memories have been sharpened.
Those, I always seem to remember.
Note For The Curious: While traveling, I often like to throw on headphones and listen to ambient audio of rain & thunder – whether trying to fall asleep on a plain/noisy hotel or even just to center myself for a few moments before a big show. Because of that, I created a TWO HOUR long audio clip of this. If you’d like it, download it for free on the podcast website.
聞く is a curious endeavor into the heart of listening through the art of binaural recording. Best listened to with the highest quality headphones you can get your hands on.

+++ Daily Guinness - Micro Death
Friday Aug 28, 2020
Friday Aug 28, 2020
Friends, this is a massive step outside my comfort zone…
I’ve decided to start implementing videos with some of my Daily Guinness episodes on the podcast. I’m not sure what it’s going to turn into but like all things, it has to start somewhere.
So, to toast the one thing we must all experience in order to grow… the death of comfort… let’s talk about my new theory of “Micro Death” and what that means when living a curious life because, If Life’s Not Binary, Why Would Death Be?

+++ Daily Guinness - Let’s talk about fear…
Tuesday Aug 25, 2020
Tuesday Aug 25, 2020
I was on a flight home from Amsterdam last year when I watched FREE SOLO.
It’s a documentary about Alex Honnold free-climbing Yosemite’s El Capitan. Right away, I knew Alex and I had nothing in common – I mean… I hate heights and I’m 6’6”… do you even know what it’s like living with that kind of daily contradiction???
Then, he started talking about fear and and I realized: to some, playing on stages in front of thousands of people might as well be climbing massive cliff… let’s talk about what it takes to get comfortable with it or anything else for that matter…

+++ Daily Guinness - Is this photo worth taking?
Sunday Aug 23, 2020
Sunday Aug 23, 2020
“Is this photo worth taking?”
…it’s a question rendered almost obsolete in the age of cellphones and digital cameras that used to be asked by film photographers regularly. (due to the fact that every frame costs something)
Now, the only question we ask ourselves is, “Is this photo worth posting online or printing?”
“But Rob, I’m a songwriter/musician/painter/writer/graphic designer, I don’t give a crap about photography… what the hell does this have to do with me and my creative process?”
Great question you obscurely made up question asker that exists in my head…
It has EVERYTHING to do with how you decide if an idea you have is good or not. Now that I think of it, maybe it has to do more with the WHEN you decide…
Join me on today’s Daily Guinness to talk about why you should be intentionally separating the CAPTURING and CURATION of your ideas in your creative process.
