Patina Park is the Chair of the Metro Urban Indian Directors and executive director of the Minnesota Indian Women’s Resource Center.
Whatever happened to that Minneapolis homeless encampment (or “Tent City” as it became known) before it’s population seemingly disappeared overnight? Is it Indian… Native American… First Nationals… what’s the proper term nowadays? Speaking of modern times, I keep seeing blond girls showing up to music festivals wearing traditional headdresses and bikinis, what’s the Native American society feel about that?
This week, Rob sits down with Patina Park over coffee to talk about these thing and much, much more in possibly the most important conversation he’s had yet.

I enjoy bluegrass music but I know NOTHING about it. Fortunately for me, my friend Nic Hentges happens to be the vice president of the Minnesota Bluegrass & Old Time Music Association and is going to be playing a concert not too far from me this evening. I’m willing to sound like an idiot in front of a friend if it means diving deep and learning more about this gorgeous musical genre.

Introducing a new (possibly regular) installment I'm calling "In Praxia" which is latin for "putting into action or practice."
As I continue to interview guests on the podcast, I'll be trying out advice they've given or things they recommend and sharing my discoveries with you.
In Question 49, Ian Allison talked about the freedom of traveling with limited gear and clothing and washing your laundry in the sink. I went out and bought some of the clothes he like, wore them multiple days in a row, made Sarah smell them each day, and washed like he does... here's what I think...

I met up with singer songwriter Ben Rosenbush in his greenroom before sound-checking at his album release concert with with his band Ben Rosenbush And The Brighton. I didn’t want to have your standard conversation, asking all the standard questions one asks when someone releases an album. What inspired these songs? Why’d you name this album the way you did? Hard pass. I want to know what it felt like.

This past week, my curiosity led me to giving a relationship another go. It was a rough breakup, we haven't been on speaking terms, but... I may be willing to give the relationship another chance...
Because of this change of heart, it led me to finding out about a Non-Profit here in Minnesota who's main goal is to help musicians have more successful careers. I'm a musician. I live in Minnesota. I want a succesful career... why have I never heard about the Minnesota Music Coalition before? Funny how things work out, I have a feeling this short conversation may lead to a longer one in the future.

What's the perfect question to ask when sitting down at a new cocktail bar for the first time? What happens to a cocktail lounge when MN Legislation says you can only serve alcohol you make on the premises... and people show up asking for the classics? I stop by Lawless Distillery to learn more about their "Beach Club" release... but I ended up finding about far more.

“Give Us This Day Our Daily Guinness” - DAY 5
Germany has a winter tradition of brewing a dark-strong beer called an "Eisbock" (pronounced Ice-Bock... yes... Ice is actually involved) But here's the real kicker: Tradition is to heat up an iron rod till it gets red hot and 'poke' your beer by sticking it in for a split second. The reaction is an instant boiling frothy head, a toasty aroma and the rest of the beer stays cold. I've never seen it done in person, so when Sarah found out Joel Scott at Northbound in South Minneapolis was doing it this afternoon... we had to check it out.
